Well March is finally here, although it's still a bit chilly out there, but on a more positive note the days are getting longer so now is the perfect time to fetch your bike out of storage and give it a thorough clean and check before going for a ride. First up you're going to need to lube the chain, then check and inflate your tyres, and make sure the brakes work properly. If you are in any doubt please give me a call and I can arrange to fit a service in before you take to the road. Don't forget I cover Cottingham, Hull, Beverley, North Cave, South Cave, Elloughton and Brough plus a lot more villages in the East Riding. So please give me a call on 07957 026262, or email info@repair2ride.co.uk to arrange a service.

Well it's been a busy couple of weeks, more than 15 bikes have been through for repairs and rebuilds. Above is a selection of photos of some of them.
Recently I've had quite a lot of bikes in for major drivetrain overhauls, so new gears, chains, cassettes, cables etc (*see photos). It's also important to remember that if your bike is 1 or more years old and you've never had any work done to it that you should definitely have a professional look over it even if it's just for a basic service as there is nothing worse than a bike that's not working properly. So give me a call on 07957026262 and book your bike in for a service. And so another year begins. Fortunately the weather has been quite kind to us cyclists, with one of the mildest winters on record. As a result I partook in the Rapha festive 500 challenge, to cycle 500km between Xmas eve and
New Year's Eve, and successfully completed it along with my wife. It's amazing what you can do when you put your mind to it. 2016 is shaping up to be another good year with the Tour de Yorkshire rapidly approaching along with the many sportives that are happening up and down the country. Not to mention the start of the local road race league and time trails. So have a great 2016 everyone :-) Well its great news to hear that Beverley will host the start of the
Tour de Yorkshire 2016. Stage One will see the riders leave Beverley and head for Settle. Otley plays host to the start of Stage Two in which the riders will head towards Doncaster. The final and possibly toughest stage starts in Middlesborough and takes in the glorious North Yorkshire Moors before finishing in the beautiful seaside town of Scarborough. Please check out le tour.yorkshire.com. for more details. The woman's race will also be taking place over the weekend. In other news I will be once again providing my services at the Heart of the Wolds Sportive on the 24th April 2016, held at the Driffield showground. There are three routes available and some stunning Wolds scenery to enjoy, plus plenty of climbs so pop it in the diary and get out there training. For further details of this well run cycle sportive click here There is plenty to look forward to in 2016, so get out there and ride!! The Tour de Yorkshire organisers will be announcing the full route on the 9th December. The men's race will be held between Friday 29th April and Sunday 1st May, put the dates in your phone now!
The women's stage, the second year of running, will take place on the Saturday 30th April. The sportive will also be returning and further details on entry and the route will be announced in the coming weeks. Looking at the six towns named as starts or finishes, they are in alpabetical order, Beverley, Doncaster, Middlesborough, Otley, Scarborough and Settle. It will be interesting to see where the routes go this year. We are lucky that Beverley is so close, we have some cracking rides in this area. The Yorkshire Bank Bike libraries are thiving, and since they opened in June this year over 1,500 bikes have been donated for children who previously did not have a bike, and are now able to learn to ride. A brilliant legacy from the tour.
Team members from Caremark completed the JOGLE challenge ride in ten hard days of riding, showing determination and true grit. Team members Graham Precious, Charles Folkes, Phil Mason, Joe Daly and Ravi Patel set off from John O'Groats in sunshine on the 8th September, enjoying the quiet roads the team made a good start. The scenery was even better the second day along Loch Ness, with no sign of the monster. Legs were aching, but with Rachel on board to massage tired legs at the end of the day they finished in Fort William. The weather changed and it was a tough ride to Paisley with a total climb of 5124 feet. Greta Green was the target on day four, no hasty weddings taking place when the weary team arrived. Day five and the weather changed for the worse and the team slogged on to Lancaster, being pleasantly surprised by Graham's family turning up to offer support and extra supplies of flapjack. By this point the team were half way to their target of Lands End. Day six saw the team heading down to Oswestry. Another wet day followed, and worse, as Charles had to sadly pull out injured. Arriving in Gloucester they were now heading down hill, all the way past the Cheddar gorge to Tiverton. They could smell the sea, heading from Tiverton to Newquay, and the sun was shining again. Final day, and a short canter to the finish line at Lands End, with Charles able to join the group, plus friends and supporters to celebrate this wonderful achievement. Thanks to Rob Munby, from PedalMoor for his help and support, and professional photos. A magnificent challenge completed and hopefully lots of cash raised for the Alzheimers Society. Well done lads, and not forgetting Rachel. To donate please visit: https://www.justgiving.com/caremarkjogle It was a foggy start to the well supported Charity event at the Humber bridge today. Among the early starters was Jack aged three and a half sat comfortably at the front of his dad Mike's bike, on his special bike seat. Jack enjoyed tucking into a snack after they had completed their ride. Well done to all riders who took part, and hopefully they have raised funds for a worthy charity.
Extra special thanks must go to Judy and her marvellous team of volunteers who made the day possible. About 29 riders of various ability took part in a new three day challenge ride from York to Whitby returning through lovely scenic North York Moors. The weekend event started on Friday with a gathering in York and a route of 56miles from York to Helmsley and back. Saturday found the riders leaving York, heading to Whitby via the Yorkshire Wolds, Pickering and Grosmont, where the heather was in full bloom, before reaching the YHA Whitby for a well earned rest and heading on foot into town for famous Whitby fish and chips. Sunday saw the riders remount their trusty two wheeled steeds to set out on the return route via Danby, Hutton Le Hole and Kirkbymoorside which included several steep ascents back up onto the surrounding heather clad moors. Only a couple of repairs to deal with so all went very well!!! All successfully survived and enjoyed the demanding weekend, climaxing in the eventual finish at YHA York. Well Done All Riders. All thanks go to John Wilson of Simple Cycle Tours plus his able assistants Sal and Emma whose hard work made the event such a success. |
Craig BoddiceI am the company founder and a very keen cyclist who has enjoyed cycling since the first day I sat on my first bike. What I love about cycling is the freedom and chance to go places under your own steam. Plus, it keeps you fit and helps to save money on fuel too! Archives
